Paroo Lily    Dianella caerulea

It prefers sandy, well drained soil and does not seem to do well anywhere else. It has lovely blue flowers with yellow anthers in spring which quickly mature into pale purple berries.

Being a bi-sexually reproducing tree, this delightful addition to almost any garden is convenient because 'one is enough'.
It grows best where it is not subjected to severe winters and will grow in the southern states if it is completely protected from cold winds and frost.

Parsley   Petroselinium crispum

Apart from the usual supplementary benefits, the leaves ,stems and root are diuretic, and reduce the production of histamine which we find a boon while out mowing the lawn. The seeds are wonderfully aromatic as well, making every part of the plant useful.

The juicy oval fruit is everyone's favourite. The leaves are a non depressant sedative for insomnia and anxiety.

Patchouli  (Malaysian)   Pogostemon heyeanus

Growing this in the garden will take you back to the halcyon days of handmade leather shoes and flowers in your hair.

Patchouli is a very attractive bushy shrub. About 45cm in height and 50cm in spread.

Pumpkin   Cucurbita moschata / Musquee de Provence

The pumpkins are very dark green when young but progressively change colour, (inside & out), until they reach a deep orange colour. Fantastic for soup, pies or stuffing, Musquee de Provence keep well and long after harvesting and are easy to germinate and grow.

Rosella   Hibiscus sabdariffa

You can eat the flowers, the buds, the young leaves, or use the flesh of the outer seed case for great jams and chutney's. The root can be eaten exactly the way you would eat parsnip.

Rue      Ruta graveolens

Because of it's anti-spasmodic action, it is used to treat high blood pressure, epilepsy and colic. A wash made from the leaves is supposedly useful for tired eyes.
